About

Quick question, have you been there before?

Hey, it's Kim again! I'm glad you're here. I have been involved in human services and the counseling profession for the past 12 years, and working with clients for the past decade.

Early in my career I knew it was time to take the support I could provide to the next level. So, after receiving my M.A. in Rehabilitation Counseling at South Carolina State University (SCSU), the next step was where I am today - a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). And, there is no better place I would rather be in this moment.

Here at Advocations Counseling & Consulting, our amazing clients benefit from diverse psychotherapy approaches and techniques that the supports the improvement of their mental health. Regardless of race, ethnicity, or gender...your path towards growth and support comes first here.

What Makes Us Different...

Advocacy

We support you in putting yourself first to overcome external and personal barriers that prevent you from your attending to your mental health needs and understanding your true authentic self.

Accountability

We are confident in our ability to make a difference in your development and hold you to the same standard of believing yourself capable of achieving personal growth in the therapy process.

Consistency

To be consistent is a commitment we make to ourselves and you to do what's required now to achieve a better outcome in the future. Our level of consistency reflects our values and standards.

Our Therapy Approaches

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

An approach that stresses the role of thinking in how we feel and what we do. It is based on the belief that thoughts, rather than people or events, cause our negative feelings.

Reality Therapy

A client-centered form of cognitive behavioral psychotherapy that focuses on improving present relationships and circumstances, while avoiding discussion of past events.

Motivational Interviewing

A method of therapy that works to engage the motivation of clients to change their behavior. Clients are encouraged to explore and confront their ambivalence.

Art Therapy

A technique that uses the creative process to help improve emotional issues, including depression, relationship problems, abuse and domestic violence, and others.

Parent-Child Interactions (PCIT)

Adults learn and practice new skills and techniques for relating to children with emotional or behavior problems, language issues, developmental disabilities, or mental health disorders.

Play Therapy

Generally for children ages 3 to 11, play therapy is a form of counseling that relies on playto help therapists  communicate with children and understand their mental health.

Tell Us Your Story

The first step in therapy is communication. Let's find a time where we can meet and talk about what's on your mind.
